From First Call to Fully Restored: What to Expect

Most homeowners have never faced a major loss. We built our process so you always know what is happening, what is next, and what it will cost.

How It Works

How Our Restoration Process Works

Most people who call a restoration company have never had to do it before. A kitchen fire, a burst pipe, a sewage backup, these are not normal events. We designed this process around that reality. You should never have to wonder what just happened, what comes next, or what this is going to cost you. Here is every step, in plain language.

Step 1

Call Us. We’re On-Site in 90 Minutes.

When you call (360) 300-4111, a real person answers. No voicemail, no callback queue, no automated menu to fight through. We are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including holidays, because water damage does not observe business hours.

Immediate Dispatch

The moment you call, dispatch begins. Our 90-minute on-site response covers our full four-county service area: Clark, Multnomah, Washington, and Clackamas.

Crew Introduction on Arrival

When we arrive, our crew introduces themselves, shows ID, and does a safety walk with you before any equipment comes in. We explain what we see in plain language before we start anything.

Step 2

We Assess the Damage and Stop It From Spreading

Before equipment starts running, we assess. We use moisture meters and thermal imaging cameras to map exactly how far the damage has traveled. Water inside walls, beneath floors, and in ceiling cavities does not announce itself visually. We find it, all of it, before we start the drying process.

Full Damage Map

We explain what we find in plain English. You will know the damage category, what it means for your home, and what the mitigation plan involves before we begin.

Mitigation Starts Same Visit

For water damage: standing water extraction, commercial air movers and dehumidifiers placed immediately, and antimicrobial treatment where needed to prevent mold growth.

Step 3

We Handle Your Insurance Claim

We prepare your estimate in the format your adjuster needs: line-item documentation, moisture logs, equipment records, and full photo documentation. We communicate directly with your insurance company so you never have to play phone-tag between us and your carrier.

Direct Billing

We bill your insurance directly. Your out-of-pocket cost on a covered loss is typically just your deductible. You focus on your family; we deal with the paperwork.

Built From Hour One

If your carrier questions any part of the damage assessment, we have the documentation to back it up. We build the claim file from the first hour on site, not after the fact.

Step 4

We Restore Your Home, Start to Finish

Once the structure is dry and the claim is approved, reconstruction begins. We do not hand the rebuild off to a separate contractor. Our crew handles it: drywall, insulation, flooring, paint, trim, cabinetry if needed. We bring the home back to pre-loss condition.

One Crew, Mitigation to Rebuild

Because RescueHero comes from Paliy Construction, we have been doing this kind of work since 2003. We know what pre-loss condition means structurally, not just visually.

Done When It’s Right

When we pack up and drive off, your home should be indistinguishable from the day before the loss. We do not close a project until it meets that standard.

What Makes Our Process Different

One crew, not a relay race. We handle mitigation and reconstruction with the same team. You are not handed off between a drying company and a rebuild company that have never met each other and do not share documentation. One point of contact, one accountable team.

Insurance-first documentation from hour one. From the moment we walk in, we are building your claim file. Every reading, photo, and log is formatted for your adjuster. We do not reconstruct documentation after the fact, because doing so creates gaps that adjusters notice.

You are never left guessing. We give you a status update at every transition point. When mitigation is complete, we tell you. When drying targets are hit, we tell you. When reconstruction is ready to start, we tell you. You should never have to chase your restoration company for information about your own home.

Process FAQs

Common Questions About Our Restoration Process

How long does the full restoration process take?
It depends on the extent and class of the damage. Mitigation, stopping the source and drying the structure, typically takes 3 to 7 days. If structural drying is straightforward and the claim is approved promptly, reconstruction can begin within 1 to 2 weeks of the loss. Reconstruction itself ranges from a few days for limited drywall and paint to 6 to 8 weeks for major structural work, flooring, and finish carpentry. After our initial assessment, we will give you a realistic timeline estimate, not a number designed to close the sale.
Do I have to be home during the restoration work?
For the initial assessment, yes. We need to walk the property with you, review our findings together, and get your authorization before we begin. After that, we work with your schedule. Most mitigation work, equipment running and daily moisture checks, does not require you to be present. For reconstruction, we coordinate access around what works for you. We will never show up at your home unannounced.
What if my insurance company denies part of the claim?
It happens, and we are not surprised by it. Our documentation is built from day one to support the full scope of damage. If your carrier denies or underpays a portion, we will walk through the denial with you, identify whether the documentation supports a supplement or appeal, and help you understand your options. We cannot guarantee outcomes, but we can make sure your file is as strong as possible. See our insurance claims page for more on how the process works.
