Emergency board-up, tarping, extraction, drying, and rebuild, one call, one team, on-site in 90 minutes.
Board-up + tarping on arrival
First Response, Same Visit
Stop the Damage Before the Rain Gets In Further
An open building envelope, any breach in the roof, walls, or windows, continues to admit weather until it is sealed. Most insurance policies require you to take “reasonable steps to mitigate further damage.” We document your pre-mitigation condition and handle the mitigation in the same visit.
Emergency Board-Up
Broken windows, compromised doors, and breached walls are secured with plywood immediately. Failure to board up promptly can give an insurer grounds to reduce the claim. We carry materials on every vehicle.
Emergency Roof Tarping
Heavy-duty poly tarps secured with battens stop water intrusion until a roofing contractor can do permanent repairs. We are not a roofing company, we handle the interior water damage and coordinate scope with your adjuster.
Water Extraction & Interior Drying
Once the envelope is secured, we extract standing water, map moisture penetration with calibrated meters, and deploy commercial LGR dehumidifiers and air movers in the same visit.
Full Insurance Documentation
Pre-board-up condition photographed before we touch anything. Daily moisture logs provided to you and your adjuster throughout the drying phase.
Local Knowledge, Real Authority
Storm Damage in Portland and Vancouver: What We Deal With Here
National restoration companies describe storm damage in the abstract. We describe what actually lands on roofs and floods basements in this four-county metro, because our crews have worked here since 2003.
Atmospheric Rivers & Heavy Rain
Clark County averages 44 inches of annual rainfall; Portland averages 37, mostly October through April. A Category 3+ AR event can drop three to six inches in 24 hours, overwhelming storm drains, sump pumps, and foundation drainage simultaneously. Flooded basements, backed-up floor drains, and roof leaks can all present within the same 12-hour window.
Wind Damage & Winter Storm Season
The Willamette Valley and Columbia River Gorge channel east wind during winter pressure reversals. December through January is the highest-risk window for fallen trees on roofs, blown-off siding, broken windows, and detached garage doors. Every hour of rain intrusion through an open roof compounds interior damage.
Ice Storms & Burst Pipes
The January 2024 ice event in the Portland-Vancouver metro produced over 1,250 burst pipe calls in approximately three days, one of the largest regional demand spikes in recent memory. RescueHero’s four-county footprint means faster response than single-territory operations during surge events. Call early when a major ice event is forecast.
Post-Fire Mud & Debris Flow
After wildfire seasons in the gorge or urban fringe, heavy fall rains on burned slopes can produce mud and debris flow. While RescueHero’s primary scope is interior restoration, significant mud intrusion into a structure produces water and debris damage that requires extraction and structural drying under the same protocol as any water event.
Emergency to Rebuilt
Storm Damage We Restore, and What Requires Other Trades
Storm damage is multi-hazard. Here is what we handle and what requires coordination with other contractors.
What We Handle Directly
Wind damage to siding, windows, doors; rain and water intrusion through any storm-opened breach; hail-related interior water damage; fallen tree structural breach; ice dam ceiling leaks; post-storm basement flooding (Cat-1 or Cat-2). Our Paliy Construction heritage means one team from emergency board-up through finished floors and paint.
What Requires Other Trades
Permanent roof replacement (we tarp and refer to a roofing partner); tree removal (a tree company handles the tree; we handle the interior breach). We coordinate scope with your adjuster so both trades appear in a single claim.
Restoration Timeline
Emergency board-up or tarping: same visit, 90-minute response. Water extraction and drying: begins same visit, three to five days. Structural repairs and rebuild: scoped after drying clearance, timeline depends on extent of damage. Daily updates throughout.
Coverage Questions Answered
Storm Damage and Your Homeowners Insurance
The most common claim denial in storm events is confusing rain intrusion with surface-water flooding. Here is the distinction that matters.
What Is Typically Covered
Wind damage to the structure; rain intrusion through a storm-opened breach; resulting interior water damage; hail damage; fallen-tree structural damage. Most standard HO-3 policies cover windstorm as a named peril.
The Flood Distinction
Surface water, water flowing over the ground, a river overflowing, or sheet flooding across a yard, is NOT covered by standard homeowners insurance. It requires a separate NFIP or private flood policy. Rain entering through a storm-damaged roof is covered; water rising from outside the foundation is not.
We Document and Bill Directly
Board-up and tarping documented separately so the claim clearly reflects pre-mitigation storm condition. We work directly with your adjuster and bill your carrier. For a full breakdown, see our full insurance claims guidance.
